The Story of The 34s

In the fall of 2014, Michael Henry & Joseph Quartiano's former band Mack Jovin was dissolving; meanwhile, Jason Sasso & Dane Bramage of The Social Clowns had been experiencing a similar shedding of bandmates. Two of New Haven, Connecticut's local rock bands were at a progressive standstill.

At the time the bands were breaking up, Michael & Joseph and Jason & Dane had already been familiar with each other's music having played at Jason & Dane's Open Mic Night for a couple years. Both pairs admired one another's songs and playing, having booked and performed together half a dozen times outside of the Open Mic.

One Sunday night, feeling a need to play in front of an audience, Michael went to the Open Mic alone. There, he was approached by Jason Sasso who–in a moment of inspiration from a muse–asked Michael if he and Joseph would like to get together at a rehearsal some night to see what the two pairs of musicians had to offer one another. Michael agreed with the idea and while he talked to Joseph about the idea Jason proposed, Jason turned to Dane to discuss the prospect. Like the slow and subtle wind before an intense storm, the group was starting to take form.

The four musicians played a few gigs without a name, but not for a lack of combined musical exceptionalism. Michael had the idea of coming up with a name that represented their home and where they had come from wherever they traveled as a band. Thus, The 34s were named for their home region of New Haven, CT. But they swore they'd never tell exactly what the name stands for.

Working on becoming a longstanding act in the climate of the local Connecticut music scene, The 34s have released two EPs, and one of their signature Tringles. They've played across state lines, in a myriad of venues, and have even appeared on Internet and FM radio shows. Ever the upwardly-mobile and dynamic band, The 34s have remained true to their innate musical appreciation for Alternative Rock music while growing as musicians and songwriters. They continue to play together as hardworking friends, dedicated to their sound.

Meet the Members

Michael Henry

Michael's been playing ever since his early years, when his grandfather introduced him to the accordion and the organ, & since his parents introduced him to a mixture of American-Pop and World Culture music. After high school, Michael began studying music theory, the human voice, classical guitar, piano, and music history. Listen for his intricate harmonious contributions to each track, recorded or live.

Jay Sasso

Jason came of age, discovering his passions for music during the United States' popular music renaissance–The '90s. Purely taught by himself and peers, Jason has always possessed an original spirit, a spirit which resonates through his playing. Original and unique, pay close attention for Jason's subtle-yet-masterful, delicate, intricate fingerings on the bass.

Dane Bromage

Dane's musical introduction began before he was born. His parents, both musicians themselves, instilled within him an appreciation for music and music making early on. Through his teenage years, he gained an appreciation for both classic-rock and punk styles which ring though his modern musicianship. Listen for his loud, pulsing riffs.

Joe Q

Joe began playing drums when he was a child. His father got him going listening to Rock & Roll rhythms early on. The sound of the drums and beats caught his ear. Not one for the vapid, soul-less popular music of his peers,  Joe found his own musical tastes were more inclined to a raw, real, and truer form of artistic musical expression. Joe still plays a deep, organic percussive style.
